A Note from Theatre
Victoria’s Executive Director
Theatre changes lives. It has been
proven to me over and over with each production -
whether I’m producing, directing, acting, stage
managing, coordinating, ushering, selling tickets – or,
yes – attending.
There is something about working with a
company of individuals, creating a live performance, that transcends day to day existence. I learned long
ago that when I’m working on, or attending, a production
– for that moment in time – nothing else really matters.
Whether for 30 minutes or 16 hours, I’m safe, enriched,
alive, empowered and inspired. I matter.
I’ve been in this “business of show” for
many years now. No matter how I’ve tried to remove
myself from it, I keep coming back. It hasn’t always
been pretty – but it sure has been rewarding.
I started my career in theatre in
Victoria; and now after 25 years - I’m back and in my
second season as executive director. I am diligently
working to bring to our city and region aspects of my
experiences and the relationships I’ve created
throughout the entertainment industry and the country. I
welcome the opportunity to share these experiences with
the city and culture that taught me discipline, how to
dream and how to achieve those dreams.
What an exciting season we have to
share! Seussical, a musical for the young and old based
on the stories of Dr. Seuss, will be followed by one of
Neil Simon’s best, Proposals. Proposals will star
Kimberly Scott, Tony-nominated actress, native Texan,
and former classmate of mine at the University of Texas
at Austin. Finishing out 2007 will be Rounding Third, a
comedy about life and baseball. Valentine’s Day 2008
will see the long-running off-Broadway musical hit, I
Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. We will close out
our season with the classic and brilliant comedy, The
Women - with an all-female cast.
Over the past year, we’ve made some
adjustments in our business practices to increase
efficiency, effectiveness and accountability as we
strive to create a better patron experience and enhance
show quality. The most visible is the theatre company’s
recent name change from Theatre Victoria to
Theatre Victoria beginning with the 2007-2008 Season.
Theatre Victoria was the name of our old building, but
for our actors and volunteers, Theatre Victoria was our
name. So we’re making it official. Same theatre company,
increasing quality, still changing lives…
