a 1987 opening, PERFECT CRIME has played off-Broadway more than 20
years. With over 9,900 performances (and counting), it sets a record
every time the curtain goes up.
The show centers on one week, in one room, in a home; in a high-end
Connecticut enclave. Psychiatrist Margaret Thorne Brent is on the cusp
of Dr. Phil-like celebrity, but a secret from her past threatens to
derail it. She plays bizarre psychological games with her husband and a
fragile patient. All the while, the local police inspector, a handsome
under-achiever, is interested both in Margaret and whatever it is she’s
hiding.
The play goes well beyond traditional mystery play. It is a sexy,
compelling thriller with well-timed surprises and laughs that relieve a
growing dramatic tension. PERFECT CRIME is total addiction, for the
mystery lover, from beginning to end—it’s like watching the long running
television series “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”—in your face.
New York Times described the play as . . . “Wonderfully puzzling . . . a
crackling thriller . . . sends electric thrills up the spine!”
